Description
Rise reflects on the persistence of Indigenous presence and sovereignty in the face of colonial histories that have often framed Native people as vanished or spectral. Through staged cinematic scenes, Jeremy Dennis uses the visual language of suspense, horror, and popular mythology to confront the fear and misinformation projected onto Indigenous communities.
The series turns familiar genre imagery into a meditation on survival, return, and visibility. Rather than representing disappearance, the works assert contemporary Native presence and invite viewers to reconsider the stories attached to land, memory, and belonging.
