I’ll Catch You explores the uneasy but necessary act of confronting shared histories and the fears that keep communities divided. At its heart, the work asks what it takes to meet one another with honesty—to move past inherited narratives of guilt, avoidance, and silence toward trust and reconciliation. Created in collaboration with East End resident and artist Georgia Suter, who also modeled for the image, Jeremy Dennis reinterprets Suter’s original painting of the same title as a staged photograph filled with symbolic tension.
In the scene, a blonde woman stands poised at the top of a playground slide, looking down toward a Native figure waiting below with open arms. The distance between them becomes a visual metaphor for the gap between cultures, histories, and understanding. The slide—ordinarily a space of play—here transforms into a site of reckoning, where descent represents both risk and release. Dennis’s composition suggests that forward movement, though fraught, is inevitable—and that healing requires a willingness to fall, to trust, and to be caught. Through this quiet yet charged encounter, I’ll Catch You becomes a meditation on vulnerability, reconciliation, and the courage to face our intertwined pasts.
