#Repost @anastasjames• • • • •Today we welcomed exhibiting artist Jeremy Dennis (b. 1990, Shinnecock) to campus for a lecture open to all New Paltz students @jeremynative ...In the highly cinematic work he is known for, Dennis explores issues relating to indigenous identity, assimilation, tradition, and history often utilizes themes of indigenous mythology to recreate Native American stories and legends....A deviation from his highly staged photography, this image is of his senior thesis exhibition “The Moral of Hubris or a story of What Not to Do in ‘Pauppukkeewis’” where Dennis turned the appropriation of his culture back onto its oppressors through the display of instances of misappropriation in pop culture and Hollywood films.
