On the show, we discuss my work and how it may intersect with technology, pop-culture, science, and the larger culture.Particularly we talk a bit about my personal works including Nothing Happened Here, my Penn State Thesis Show, and the documentary portrait photography I do!Kimberly Ruth (the host) is a New York based multi-media artist. Her work explores the failures and inconsistencies of language, especially in the digital age. Through text, photography, video, and performance, she works to unveil, de-construct, poke fun at and critique the way words and images fail each other and their promise of objective truth. She has recently exhibited at Galapagos Kunsthalle, New York; CICA Museum, South Korea; and SOMA, Mexico City. - #Repost @settlement_uk• • • • • •Central Park PlymouthSettlement Featured Artist: Jeremy Dennis is a contemporary fine art photographer and a tribal member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton, NY. In his work, he explores indigenous identity, culture, and assimilation. Dennis holds an MFA from Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA, and a BA in Studio Art from Stony Brook University, NY. In his work, he explores indigenous identity, cultural assimilation, and the ancestral traditional practices of his community, the Shinnecock Indian Nation. Dennis' work is a means of examining his identity and the identity of his community, specifically the unique experience of living on a sovereign Indian reservation and the problems they face. He currently lives and works in Southampton, New York on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation. ️️️ For Settlement, Dennis will work on an installation based on his ancestry and connection to Plymouth history in New England. Dennis will be engaging for Settlement week one, July 6-12, following a day long engagement in Central Park hosted by the Wampanoag Nation to open Settlement on July 5th. Follow the work of Jeremy Dennis @jeremynative ️️️ Settlement is a Native American-led performative encampment in which over 27 acclaimed Indigenous artists from across North America will activate Pounds House and surrounding grounds in Plymouth’s Central Park, UK from July 6 – August 2, 2020. (Will miss the opening sadly) 'The Oath' (from the 'Stories' series) is based on post-colonization texts and theory rather than oral stories, The Oath, referencing Jacques-Louis David's 1784 painting, represents the duality between traditional and contemporary lifestyle. The looming background appears to be a cityscape, while the foreground appears to be a traditional representation of North Eastern Woodland architecture and regalia. The men in the image appear to be preparing for the hunt or for war; through their collaborative efforts, they represent the important ideal of solidarity.
