Awarded Fine Art Photographer and Native Storyteller Jeremy Dennis to visit the Coastal Branch Library on Wednesday, January 8 from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Presentation is free and open to the public.
Contemporary fine art photographer Jeremy Dennis honors the rich traditions of the Shinnecock Indian Nation of Southampton, NY. His compelling images explore questions of indigenous identity, culture and assimilation in digital constructions that meld the past with the present. The resulting supernatural images transform myths and legends into photographic depictions of actual real-time experience. Dennis has exhibited widely in museums, art galleries and universities throughout New York. He is most recently recipient of the Creative Bursar Award from Getty Images. Dennis will give a powerpoint presentation of his awarded photographic series Stories and On This Site. This program offers high educational value for those interested in photography, the creative process, American history, Native American culture and storytelling.
