A Moment of Our Time exhibition graphic featuring the participating Shinnecock artists and exhibition dates

On view August 23–November 14, 2026

Ma’s House, 159 Old Point Road, Southampton, NY 11969

A Moment of Our Time: A Shinnecock Response to America 250 centers the voices of living Shinnecock artists responding to the United States’ 250th anniversary. Jeremy Dennis curated the exhibition and is also one of its participating artists.

For the Shinnecock Nation, 1776 is not the beginning of history on this land. The exhibition places the founding of the United States within a much longer Indigenous history and creates space to reflect on occupation, colonization, land, military service, cultural survival, family memory, sovereignty, and the continuing effects of American history on Shinnecock life.

Through personal and collective perspectives, the artists complicate familiar narratives of American independence and affirm Shinnecock endurance, creativity, and presence across generations.

Featured artists: Melissa Allan, Jeremy Dennis, Kelly Dennis, Durrell Hunter, David Bunn Martine, Tracey Pace, Eli Philips, Heather Rogers, Madeleine Rogers, Denise Silva-Dennis, Nadonis Tarrant, Adrienne Terry, Christian Weaver, and Nashota Williams.

Visiting hours: Thursdays and Sundays, 10 AM–5 PM, or by appointment.

Organized by Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio, Inc. with support from the Robert D. L. Gardiner Foundation.
